What does the ICDA Board do?

ICDA President

It is the job of the ICDA President to lead the organization in translating the vision into a reality. The President provides direction and leadership for their elected term. Specific duties of the President include... -- Presiding at meetings of the Board of Directors and all official meetings of the Association. -- Selecting the Treasurer and ICDA committee chairs. -- Carrying out policy as prescribed by the Board of Directors. -- Appointing a Treasurer and all necessary committee chairs. -- Representing ICDA on the ICA Governing Council or designating a representative to serve in their place. -- Appointing ICDA representation on the ICA Governing Council and other ICA committees. -- Organizing ICDA’s representation at the ICA Conference. -- Performing such duties as assigned by the Board of Directors. Tenure: One year followed by one year as Immediate Past President.

President-Elect

It is the job of the President-Elect to learn about the position of President and to support the President in fulfilling their duties throughout the year. Specific duties of the President-Elect include... -- Serving on at least one committee. -- Performing such duties as assigned by the Board of Directors. Tenure: One year followed by one year service as ICDA President.

Immediate Past President

The Immediate Past President serves as an advisor to the President, informing the President of the duties of the position and providing guidance on the best ways to carry them out. Specific duties of the Immediate Past President include... -- Serving as chairperson of the Nominations and Elections Committees. -- Serving as ICDA representative to the ICA Nominations and Elections Committee. -- Performing such duties as assigned by the Board of Directors. Tenure: One year.

Secretary

The Secretary provides a written record of the proceedings of the annual business meeting and the meetings of the Board of Directors. The Secretary is also the chair of the Publications Committee. Specific duties of the Secretary include... -- Recording the minutes of the annual business meeting and the monthly meetings and distributing the minutes to members of the Board of Directors. -- Leading the effort to publish at least two ICDA Newsletters during the year. -- Performing such duties as assigned by the Board of Directors. Tenure: One year. Selection Process: Selected yearly through the ICDA election process.

Treasurer

The treasurer makes purchases and payments from ICDA's funds, keeps an eye on funding levels, and regularly reports to the ICDA Board of Directors. Specific duties of the Secretary include... -- Making payments for regular expenses. -- Handling online purchases related to ICDA activities. -- Reimbursing Board members for ICDA purchases. -- Monitoring the ICDA bank account and reporting monthly balances and expenditures at the monthly meetings. -- Performing such other duties related to this office. Tenure: One year. Selection Process: Selected at the request of the ICDA President.

Directors (2)

The role of the Directors is to serve as chair of one committee and to provide assistance to the Board as needed. Specific duties of the Directors include... -- Serving as chair of one committee. -- Helping to fulfill the functions and responsibilities of ICDA. -- Performing such duties as assigned by the Board of Directors. Tenure: Two years. Selection Process: Selected through the ICDA election process. The two Directors are chosen during alternating years.

Role and Duties of All Board Members

The general role of Board members is to come together as a team to enthusiastically help ICDA expand and excel in fulfillment of its mission and vision. The ideal Board members are collaborative, supportive, and willing to contribute to Board meetings, projects, and ICDA events for the purpose of helping ICDA thrive. Board members do NOT need to be particularly experienced with ICDA or have years of experience in the area of career development. We need people from a variety of backgrounds to ensure an array of ideas, strengths, and perspectives.

Specific duties for all Board members include...

Attending all monthly Board meetings and ICDA's annual business meeting.
Contributing at least one article to ICDA's newsletter and/or blog each year.
Attending the ICDA Spring Conference and other ICDA events whenever feasible.

All Board members have voting privileges in ICDA Board matters.
